Charalambous was the official Labour Party candidate for [[Epping Forest (UK Parliament constituency)|Epping Forest]] in [[United Kingdom general election, 2005|2005]] and for Enfield Southgate in [[United Kingdom general election, 2010|2010]] and [[United Kingdom general election, 2015|2015]], before being elected in 2017.<ref name="enfield-today1"/> He became the first MP to have both parents born in [[Cyprus]].
